How to get your first job on rentacoder.com?

Getting your first job on rentacoder is really a tough job. I say so because when you bid on projects there are so many bidders out there with excellent feedback and ratings. When you are new to the website and you have no ratings/feedback so normally it takes times to get your first job. Being a buyer on rentacoder.com I normally ignore bids with no ratings/feedback. So here are few my points what should you do to land your first job.
- Start with small projects, go for data entry/forum posts etc
- Try to bid as low as possible, when you are new to rentacoder your focus should be on building your profile, making your ratings and getting good feedback from the buyers rather than making money.
- Do post your portfolio or reference websites/projects that you have worked on other than rentacoder.
- Your bid amount should be justified according the project requirements e.g for script installation such as installing wordpress, joomla, phpbb etc it should be 10-13$, because for such projects there are normally large no of bidders and eventually project is awarded to someone with such bid amount.
- YOur selection of words also matter a lot while making a bid, dont beg the buyer to accept your bid.
- Dont post generic bids without reading the project description as most of them are ignored as they give buyer an impression that you have not read the project bid request.
- Dont bid on projects which you cant do. This will result the project into arbitration and losing the arbitration will ruin your ratings/feedback.
It requires a lot of effort in getting your first job. I hope my points will help you get your first bid/job on RAC.

Yes, man you are 100% right. i am also follow same tricks to get a Project. When i start i try to give minimum bid amount and i have got two project initially With 300$ and 180$.
And also try to concentrates on provide quality work.Because if you are provide quality work then you defiantly get next job from same buyer and this going on. And by providing Quality work you receive good Comments and it help to get new Job.

well you are alrite in mentioning these points. i got my first work of $5 and then $7 and now i got $30 work. i started from the lowest bid and my first two jobs were related to data entry and forum posting. very easy jobs. another thing which really matters that i bid on a project of article writing i didnot look the topics at first so when buyer accepted my bid then i saw the topics which were not related to my field and i need to put into arbitration. so i suggest you aswell to please donot post bid without reading the project fully.
well in my first 3 jobs i got 10 excellent ratings.

Sometimes we do learn from our mistakes, There was a client for whom i did few smaller projects on rentacoder. He asked me about a website in asp to be duplicated, and agreed to get that project done for him. The project cost was 850$ and i took 2 months from him for this project. Later found that the project was way too big and was very difficult to finish it off in 2 months. What happened, the project went into arbitration but luckily i have convinced the buyer to use Self Mediation as i agreed to pay 3.5% cancellation charges. So my advice dont bid on projects which you think you cant complete them as it will only put you into trouble.

Hello,
This is a very well written and accurate article. I started on Rent A Coder about a year ago. I bid on probably 100 projects or more before I finally got my first project there. And it was to write an article. Paid $20.00….But now with 57 completed projects and a feedback rating of 9.74, I don’t have any problems getting projects with some projects paying $1000.00 +.
One of the biggest factors to my success with RAC has been in reading the requirements and making sure that I understand what needs to be done and that I have the skills to do it prior to bidding on a project.
Keep up the good work with your blog. I am bookmarking you now.
William

All points are valid and true. But no. 2 and no. 7 are the most important ones. If you bid high and have no ratings yet, chances are that you’re going to be rejected. And if you bid on the project that you cannot do. you’ll surely get a bad rating which will make it hard for you to win a project in future.
